The problem

Our client is the leading manufacturer of apparel and accessories. The department store chain of the client had enormous amounts of data kept in several places, which was limiting the business's ability to make quick decisions. Due to the non-scalable data ecosystem and the increasing customer demand for data, missed opportunities were being caused by business performance. The challenges include:

  1. Real-time visibility: Inventory visibility in real-time across different fulfilment routes and locations is a major bottleneck.
  2. Enable fulfilment: Difficulty in enabling stores and distribution centres to fulfil orders. 
  3. Unstructured data: Missed opportunities were caused by numerous data points, siloed data, and the need for cross-department collaboration to update the data.
  4. Data Sharing: Data cannot be easily shared with internal or external parties.
  5. Dead Inventory: Could not able to expand since the dead inventory would restrict their cash flow for weeks or more. These large outstanding were a problem for them because of credit payment cycles. 

The Solution:

The objective was to create a modern generation data platform for departmental stores, which would enable them to sell items as well as benefit from cutting-edge supply chain and logistics solutions. The platform highlights include:

  1. Real-time data ingestion: Data intake in real-time that is tailored for effective business operations and offers end-to-end product insight.
  2. Data Analytics: Data processing and storage that have been decoupled using the appropriate tools and technology for data engineering.
  3. End-to-end visibility: A serverless real-time streaming framework with data sharing hooks provides cross-business unit product development with complete visibility.
  4. Processes engineering: Redesigned more than 100 legacy process jobs to increase scalability and performance.
